NOT STEAM....... just fun.    3 x CFL

Offering a trio of these God awful compact fluorescent light bulbs that were forced upon us as the "lamps that would save the planet".

Before that, the coiled compact fluorescent lamp was invented in 1976 by Edward Hammer at GE to help address the 1973 oil crisis which proved to be a huge hoax or con job on the entire public sector. The oil crisis was over faster than you could sneeze.

Now what can we do to sell this nasty little lamp that takes a long time to warm up?
OK, no one liked them but we have them and should sell them. Fairly well avoided by the masses until about 1995 when the perfect crisis came to the forefront. This would be known as "global warming" which our fragile planet could not possibly survive without forcing us all to pay exorbitant prices for these homely little excuses for a light bulb.

While LED's have been around since the 1960's, the first blue or bright LED was developed in 1994, just before they got us to spend billions on CFL's. The bright white LED was soon to follow but no one wanted to put the effort into scaling up efficiency and production to bring the cost down whilst we had all these profoundly lousy pieces of crap known as the CFL..... and we had not yet sold nearly enough of them.

Their reign as a go to piece of hardware was a blink in the grand scheme of things. Think of it this way.... The incandescent lamp has been around since it's invention in 1879. it was the go to lamp for all non-commercial and many commercial lighting applications. It would reign supreme for 115 years.

These CFL's have now been largely replaced with LED's that are much more affordable than early CFL's and earlier LED's.

LED lamps were quite costly in the beginning but have become for more reasonable today than most other solutions. I submit to you that had we just concentrated on development of the LED back in the 1990's, we may have had better and cheaper LED's much more quickly.

I don't have enough respect for these things to do a good job packing them so delivery in good shape is more of a gamble than a reality...... just kidding as I could never bring myself to ship anything poorly packaged.

Asking $109.87 NOW $219.74 each and selling only as a trio for $659.22
Shipping is free to the entire world.

Almost forgot this:  used and still working

Good PM from Brooklyn...

I have trusted my seedlings to CFL's for 20 years.
LED's, even horticultural ones, do not seem to work
as well.  Wonder why, so, I just go with the tried-and-true.

Plant growing is different than what we use for good vision. The grow-lux fluorescent was and is a good growing solution.

I find that good old incandescent white light is still the best for viewing the entire color spectrum crisp and proper.

I have never had a CFL that lasted anywhere near the touted hours of service claim on the package. warranty Phuff....forget it.

I agree, Bruce. They have never lasted what they were claimed to last. Also, if they go out when they are on they can start a fire.

And in reality changing to CFL lamps achoeved nothing as lights are responsible for less ths 5% of a power usage.
Boil the kettle once and wipe out theadvantage of low wattage lamps!

My biggest pet peeves with incandescent bulbs was the fact they burned out all the time. I remember almost always having a burned out bulb in the house. The second pet peeve was the heat. In the summer time without AC, the heat generated was noticable and near burnt fingers when trying to change the freshly burnt out bulb. The only saving grace was the yellowish light.

CFLs or FL tubes of any kind I hate them. The harsh flickering light. Everything looks ghastly in them and they burned out.

LEDs, always liked these even the early ones. The newer filament LEDs. I LOVE 💕 them. So genius. They even look like incandescent bulbs. So many color choices. You want super yellow lights? You can get them.  Recently moved... This house was upgraded with dimmable flat panelled low profile LED lights. They are magic. Perfect color.

A couple of days ago I found out that the incandescents used to last 2400 hours but the companies engineered the bulbs to last 1000 hours. Arg!!! https://spectrum.ieee.org/tech-history/dawn-of-electronics/the-great-lightbulb-conspiracy

Will my perfect LEDs be destroyed by a monopoly eventually? Regulation isn't a bad thing.

Remember, these perfect LED lights only come about because a law was passed dissuading incandescent.

You are right about the heat the bulbs gave off. I worked in a school and the exit light bulb
keep burning out because it was built into the wall with no air flow around it. Than one day
I got the idea to use a bulb from the high school football field. The scoreboard used a 220 volt
bulb so that when the game was in the daytime you used 220 to the bulb and when you had
a night game you would switch to 110 volts. The bulb in the exit light never burned out again
because of the larger filment in the bulb.

The first ever LED was made in 1927.
If I had the storage space... And the money... I'd have a few more engines.

As an avid collector of vintage cfl I find your asking price offensive. Never have I paid over $60 for even the most pristine example (outdoor approved, extra long coil, replaces 200 watts incandescent). Nick’s offerings could be had for a more reasonable price and easily cleaned up and would look just as good at a show.
But.....do you still have the original boxes? Some of them were very nice!
If you play with fire, you're gonna get burned.

I used one in the dome light of my Edsel. It wasn't much of a hit, either.

Or perhaps 20 years earlier:
wiki:Light-emitting diode[edit]

Recreation of the 1907 experiment by H. J. Round on the observation of electroluminescence from a point contact with a carborundum (silicon carbide) crystal. In some later experiments with cat's whisker detectors using a variety of substances, he passed current through them and noticed that some gave off light – the first known report of the effect of the light-emitting diode (LED). Round published his result in 1907 in Electrical World
