As Easy As 1, 2, 3 - Weeden Line Shafts!
« on: October 06, 2025, 08:32:44 pm »
While not exactly a exciting goal, I been wanting all three Weeden Line Shafts.  It seems the No. 2 is hard to come by on eBay but finally scored one in fairly good shape and it is the older leaded leg version too.  I suppose the No. 3 isn't easy to find either but my brother randomly gave me his.  Looking at each of these models in individual photos, doesn't give you a good feel for their difference in size - so I am putting them all together.

Hopefully one day I can replace the one wheel missing on the top of my No. 3 but I need to figure out its size so I can see if any of the other more common accessory wheel's would make a good replacement.

Maybe one day I'll get lucky and get one of those strange No. 73 Transmitters!  Does anyone here actually have one or seen one in person?

Now you need all the different color/decal/stamped base variants, that alone would be a big collection 😂

I'd be happy to find a No. 1 with lead legs - which I assume the base would be stamped "Weeden" like the other two.  That said, having all the variants would be a rather nice (and hard) collection!

Heck, it was hard enough to get these three ;-)

Now with a donor No. 1's pulley transferred to my No. 3 upper outer shaft.  Once that paint is good and dried, I'll scuff & dirty it up a bit.

I couldn't resist seeing how many accessories I could get connected up to this No. 3 Line Shaft.  I ran out of belts, I still have two stamp mills and then my hoisting drum (though the drum would be to much of a pain to unwind its block & tackle).

I did get close, 7 out of 8 ain't bad ;-)

I found another band in my suit case, now I have 8 Accessories running - YAY.  It takes every bit of the Weeden 14 to run all these accessories.  She is really chuffing!  Though if I wasn't holding my iPhone I'd likely could be fine turning the throttle a bit.

Thanks @Nick

Here is a leisurely look at the Line Shaft in operation with 8 accessories video, this time with my Weeden Electric No. 670.  I knew it would run the accessories better than the No. 14.  The No. 670 reminds me a lot of the Empire B-30, though IMO the B-30 is a lot more powerful (and better made).  Regardless, the 670 is one of my favorite Weeden engines.

Hope you enjoy this video!
