thank you all for your kind replies.

I have decided to start a sympathetic restoration which I will document here once in a while.

But before I start this, here the latest find - the original SV weight!!! Not visible on any of the photos supplied by the auction house. I found it when I discarded the box the engine had arrived in, lousily stuffed with crumbled papers. If I hadn't picked out every single piece of paper the weight would have gone down the drain - after 110 years...
