@Nick, based on my research the 1873 date is correct +/- one year. Buckman started advertising the engine in April of 1872. This is a very special Young America. One thing that would help me with my research is to know if this particular engine has a double-walled boiler as shown in this patent which is specific to the Little Giant two-cylinder model. Buckman's advertising never used the word "Improved", but it was used in an article about the Little Giant
It has the “conoidal” shape, but not “corrugated” and there is no inner shell, it is single wall. I do have a larger single and twin “bee-hive” shape boiler at another location that I will definitely have to check…
