The ball governors on this engine should work pretty well and a variation was sold for the PM #7 too.

It's a pity that the plans weren't sold to PM or another company as I wouldn't mind making a couple of these for upcoming engines.

Here’s some pics of a NOS John Coleman governor for the S50. THe little brass plate is upside down and just says S50. At the time when I bought this one, they were bring $200-250 on ebay

Greg,

Great thread, thanks for posting the pictures. The S50 is such a classic design, and a lovely engine. Two nice examples!

One minor point on the black engine, it's a rather odd mounting for the displacement lubricator. I believe they need to be mounted vertically, with the condensate drain valve down. But it doesn't matter, unless you're running on steam.

Nice pics, Nick!  Do you know the diameter of the balls on that governor?

Thanks Nick for the photos, they match my unit precisely, right down to the brass gaskets. Also solves the mystery of the the S/50 brass plate. The same plate was glued onto the valve chest of my engine, of course I had no idea that it had any direct association with the governor. Is a bit worse for wear and so I did not put it back, I prefer to leave it off for now, but will be sure to always keep it with the engine.

Paula, thanks for the tip on the lubricator, that is the way I received it, have not run it on steam yet but will take your advice if I do!
