Weeden No. 26
« on: July 07, 2020, 02:58:09 pm »
I have been working on bringing this one back to life this week.

A very rare Weeden vertical produced from 1894-1910. The description from the Weeden Book is below.

The engine was missing the whistle and the pin to connect the cylinder. I didn’t have the correct whistle (the same one that Bill @AirSpyder needs for his even rarer Weeden No. 8 Beam) so I opted to install a Weeden weighted safety valve instead and added the pin to connect the cylinder to the shaft. I also added the cork for the burner.

I tested it on air and it ran well. I doubt I will ever Steam it.  This model is one of the cheapest Weeden made at the time. Not nearly the quality of the Weeden No. 1 or No. 2.

I have never seen one other than in the Weeden Book and on Frank’s website.

Below are some pictures after the repairs.

Great box, great engine. The SV looks just fine in place of the whistle, certainly better than a naked hole. Good work on setting this one straight.

Thanks Nick, Benny and Bill.

I decided not to repaint it.  Just let it show its age like a nice Rat Rod.

I am planning on filming a video this afternoon.

Dual safety valve?
If I had the storage space... And the money... I'd have a few more engines.

Dual safety valve?

It didn't have a safety valve.  Just a water fill plug and a whistle.

That's why I opted to install the safety valve (and the fact that I didn't have the correct whistle).

I am going to shoot it now.

I got distracted from a surprise box that I got in the mail!  :P
