Big Green Generator ID
« on: July 22, 2021, 02:21:50 pm »
Recently got to wondering about the maker of this generator which has no markings. It looks similar to one Gil brought up quite sometime ago that initially was thought to have a Stuart connection but later discounted. Hopefully someone will be able to identify it - thanks.

That is a very nice generator and should make plenty of electricity.

It is identical to mine except that yours has a 3 arm bearing carrier frame on both ends where mine has 3 on one end and 2 on the other end which was more typical of these.

I am not certain how Stuart was discounted unless you go by the lack of listing in Stuart's steam engine catalogs. Stuart made many products outside of the steam engine arena. It may just be listed in one of there other catalogs. For example, pictured below is a Stuart generator well maked with the unmistakable Stuart logo in brass. The gentleman who told me it was a Stuart product had extensive knowledge as he had been collecting and building engines since the for over 60 years which places his early collecting beginning back in the 1940's (when I met him in 2003).

Larry, I still believe it has Stuart heritage and... it is a nice rare piece that functions well.

Below are pictures of yet another Stuart generator (this one marked) that you will not find in any of their steam catalogs.

Gil

This was originally mounted on a much larger generator as an exciter dynamo.
