Coolspring Engine Show Finds
« on: October 16, 2021, 11:52:37 am »
I found the Coolspring fall show to be very disappointing.  Attendance was low, even though the weather was wonderful for this time of the year, the grounds were far from being full and the show pretty much closed up by 2 pm Friday afternoon.  The show is advertised as running through Saturday, so I feel badly for anyone who paid to see the show after 2 on Friday or on Saturday.

There seemed to be a lot of buying and selling of full-sized engines, but the model engine collectors and sellers really weren't there, and the little bit that was for sale was way overpriced, in my opinion! Most of the model engines for sale were in non-running condition and still higher priced than the several engines I had for sale that were running and could be demonstrated for the buyer.  I guess because of this, I did sell a few engines, but by Friday, I hand't found anything to buy.

I did end up purchasing an Empire hot air engine and an early mechanical fan, both from another Forum member.  Hopefully, this show was a fluke, and next summer's show will be back to the normal great show we have come to expect to find at Coolspring!

I bought the empire on the left in the picture, thinking I would keep the better of the two, but when I got it home, I discovered that they were two slightly different versions of the same model, so I'll have to keep them both.

Eventhough the show came out as a bit of a disappointment when it came to attendance, iŽd still like to congratulate you on your sales and purchases.
Good to hear that at least some toy and model enthusiasts kept the banner flying high, and was able to strike a few deals.
A fine report Doug, thanks for sharing!

Fingers crossed that youŽll make a couple of videos soon , demonstrating your two new additions :)
Cheers

Doug...I also didn't think much of what was offered for sale (didn't buy a thing), although I enjoyed it as always and the weather was great. There seemed to be plenty of interested buyers, however. What was funny (and sad) is that about half the exhibitors/vendors ran away when it rained for 30 minutes on Friday. Those of us who remained enjoyed a beautiful day and had a great time.

Beautiful fan Doug.
I'm kind of surprised to hear about the poor attendance at Coolspring Fall Show.
I live in eastern PA. and I had another appointment on Friday.
It is quite a long ride from New Tripoli, PA to the Coolspring show for one day, so I setup a display at the Jacktown fall show.
I went up there a few days before the show to make my mark on a spot.
To my Surprise, I could have had my choice of location to setup. There was very poor attendance at that show also.
In spite of the low attendance, I had a fun day and made a few new friends as well as visiting with old friends.
I don't understand the poor attendance, but, I hope that the summer shows are more promising....Barry

We had a great show that fall of 21 in spite of lower attendance and in my opinion the next one (June this year) was even better and back to normal.
