My son and his family went camping on the weekend 4 hours inland from the coast and came across this old engine

Interesting , if only it could speak and tell what it's life purpose was & how it got there.
Bald tires suggest it was just a portable steam source and not a traction engine in its own right. If I'm not mistaken, inland from where Jim lives was both logging and gold mining country, so I suspect it was used in relation to one, or possibly both, as a lot of logging was done to service the mines, of those bygone times.
Appears the engine itself is missing.
