COVID19 Lockdown Crazy
« on: April 08, 2020, 01:34:19 pm »
I think i have too much time to play with this M90, it now has ball main bearings, cast piston ring, sealed and enlarged valve bodies, spark plug lowered to be flush with combustion chamber, and stronger exhaust valve spring, oh and did i mention a heavier base and a PM research generator... i think i need psychiatric help  ;D

Here is a video of some endurance testing after about 4 tanks of fuel

You don't need any help ... I think that you've shown a perfect application of time available under the circumstances.

Well done with all of that work, making it into a real machine!

I thought I had commented on this, but I must not have hit the post button , very nicely executed & lots of qaulity work into this build. What an ideal base engine to just modify the heck out of. Good work 😉👍

Looking good!
Did you machine that exhaust yourself?
Matt.

Nice!, really like the upgrades made a good runner. Paint looks good also it’s the first one I’ve seen done up.

I was looking for info on the Kersel engine yesterday (trying to see what Mr Kersel did regarding valve spring strength etc.) and lo and behold i find a picture where someone has done almost excactly the same mods with a Kersel!  The colour was green, inboard pulley driving a PM research generator all on a similar base...uggh i feel like a plagiarist now :-[.

I cannot find the image again but feel i must state publicly to the lady or gentleman who created the original that i was not aware of their project had no intention to 'rip off' their ideas and sell as my own.

The base i  made is to add weight and stop it jumping onto the floor, the generator to add more rear end weight and to load the engine, the inboard pully because this is how the generator lines up best, the green paint so i could lose the 4 allen screws and round off the water jacket for a more realistic look.

Kind regards
Ade

Hi Matt,
Yes the exhaust is made up of bits of brass i had in the workshop, machined and silver soldered.  No very period but it keeps the noise down so i do not upset the neighbors and directs the oily exhaust downwards.
Kind regards
Ade

Ade,
Honestly in hobbies, imitation is flattery!
Plus you did standard hop up steps whether for a mini engine or a motorcycle engine...

Can you share your details on your cast iron ring you made or purchased?
Thanks.

Hi,
It is from an OS 50 model helicopter engine, part number 25303400.  It requires a 1mm wide groove machining in the piston.
Kind regards
Ade

Thanks! It’s great to be able to use a current part. Machining the groove is simple Lathe operation and I have a Lathe and Mill.
