Jin's Six Cycle Philip Duclos Miniature
« on: September 20, 2023, 06:43:16 am »
I haven't bought any of the Chinese engines in a while, but this little six cycle caught my attention, as I have two other versions of it in my collection, both the normal scale version and a 2x version.  The new miniature version ran perfectly, right out of the box, and the quality is quite good.  They make a nice trio of six-cycle engines! I miss that large one and I'm happy it's in a great home!

Did anyone else notice that Jin's 6 Cycle Oddball is actually a 4 Cycle?
Jin knows his is a 4 Cycle.

He used a cam timing gear twice the size of the crank shaft gear.
The 6 Cycle engine requires a cam gear 3 times the size of the crank gear. (as seen on Doug's 2 larger versions)

I noticed it as soon as I got mine. Haven’t run it yet, though.

Bonjour,
Doug,I envy your collection because, unlike you, I was only able to buy Chinese engines (including this one).

France must undoubtedly be too small a distant market for manufacturers of this type of product to be interested in it and no one builds them locally.

Gil, could you pleae explain me what is a 4 or a 6 cycle engine as I don't see differences between my engines when they hit or miss ? I know what a 2 or a 4 stroke engine is, difference between stroke an cycle ? Thank you in advance !

Hi Raphael, a stroke and a cycle are the same thing.
A 6 cycle has 2 extra strokes due to a cam gear 3X the size of the crank gear (vs 2X crank gear).
The extra 2 strokes just move air in and out and can help with cooling.
