Be sure to oil both ends of the connecting rod.  With the engine upside-down, squirt some oil into the crankcase via the vent hole.  Leave it in that position for a few minutes to let the oil flow. That will lube the upper rod and wrist pin. Then, stand it right-side-up and lube the lower end of the rod and crank which can be seen throught the vent hole.  After a few minutes soak you can drain out excess oil through the vent.  The ends of the crankshaft can be oiled from the outside of the engine when you do the other parts that slide and pivot.

The carburetor needle on my M-18 is very sensitive to adjustment.  You have found the sweet spot on yours so be delicate with adjustment.  Stirlingkit sells the M-17B throttle carburetor which should fit the M-18 and allow it to run slower without tweaking the mixture. https://tinyurl.com/46sa6n99
