I’m impressed by the critique here.  Begs the question if there exists any appropriate scale engine for the n gauge dynamo envisioned? Would an engine robust enough for the task appear outsized in the role?

OR

Can sufficient mods be made to do the trick?

I run two N scale trains (5 cars each) along with several other accessories simultaneously using a stepper motor generator turned by my Jensen 51 replica.  Big engine granted, but if an engine can spin a stepper motor (scrapped from a computer printer)... it should easily power your N scale layout.
