Wobbler Hit and Miss Engine Up and Running
« on: June 19, 2021, 07:54:21 pm »
It didn't take much to get this engine running that I got the first day of Coolspring.  Today was the first day after a long week at the show, that I had an opportunity to work on it.  It's quite an interesting engine, but not one that I'm likely to run for long periods of time. It seems like more of a novelty engine.

Hi Doug,
thank you for introducing and explaining the engine here. I have never seen such a machine before.
Cheers

Doug,
Interesting engine, it does look a little frenetic.

ADJECTIVE
fast and energetic in a rather wild and uncontrolled way.
"a frenetic pace of activity"
synonyms:
frantic · wild · frenzied · hectic · fraught · feverish · fevered · mad · manic · hyperactive · energetic · intense · fast and furious · turbulent · tumultuous · confused · confusing · exciting · excited · swivel-eyed

Is it running with a governor?

That's interesting indeed! Does this mean you owned this engine previously and it is indeed a Herb Bedell engine?

Interesting in as well interesting, lol. The video popped up in my recommendations, so no to owning or ever seeing it before. But many features make me consider it a possible work of Herb Bedell. I once asked him how many he made and he said over 130, and his son commented at least that many and I saw many made afterwards.
Herb was also prone to make engines on a "bet you couldn't" basis and the wobbler would be just that kind of engine. Did you also think it looked "Herbish"

Yes, Herbish, except the fuel tank and base are not the Herb standards.

I have seen a few different designs of the oscillating hit and miss engine.

Great to see yours running, Doug!
