Unknown Half-Beam Pumping Steam Engine
« on: September 17, 2020, 09:35:34 pm »
My recent Ebay purchase arrived today.  It was well-packed and arrived in excellent condition.  It came while I was at work, so I cleaned it up a little and found the machine work to be to a very high standard.  So, as soon as I got home, I decided to try it immediately on steam.

It was a little sluggish to start, but I imagine that either it had never been steamed or had not been run in a very long time.  As the oil worked into all of the moving parts, it quickly began to run much better, and I am extremely pleased at both the workmanship and the overall appearance.  I love that the base, made of aluminum, not only allows for the flywheel to be recesssed into the base, but the base also holds the water for the pump.

Although not a large engine, the castings are all bronze, and with the aluminum base, this little engine weighs just under ten pounds.  This is the third of this type of engine I know of, and yet it still remains unknown as to the maker.  Although, you never know with an Ebay purchase, I think that I really lucked out!  Following this are pictures to show the details of this engine, including all of the oilers.

While it seems just a bit smaller than my first impressions of it, there is no question that you scored a real deal and a fine runner with that superbly crafted and elegant engine!!!

I think you did quite well on this one.
