Well, an image search came up with this for me:

This was the standyby ventilating fan at Sutton Manor Colliery and driven by a cross compound engine that is now preserved in the Trencherfield Mill complex

Awesome ...... what does the plaque say?
The original post where I found the photo said that it was used for ventilation of an underground mining operation.

That would perhaps explain the curved blades.

Looking at the huge fan, mine doesn't look so out of scale.

I built mine larger so it wouldn't have to spin so fast. I'm thinking that is safer for fingers.
