Thanks a lot for sharing this video!
I think I know this mixture of apprehension and anticipation before such an engine comes to life...
Great engine, great state it is in after all these years - there is some oil residue tarnishing the wonderfully blued boiler cover, but I'd be very careful about htis and rather leave it before I'd damage the blueing... Some original (or replacement) wooden handles should be available...
...but these are really only minor details. But look at these ladders, the cross-head guides...listen to that sound.
GREAT! Congratulations!
I wonder if the burner is really in its original state. I know these long, flat vaporisers from olf Bing / Bassett Lowke live steam locos, but I have never seen one with a Mrklin stationary steam engine!?! Usually there are these round "mushroom" vaporisers...
But one never stops learning... Is there anybody on the forum who can say anything about this subject?
Well, thanks again and enjoy!
Regards
Thomas

Hi Thomas,
Yes, I have a 4158/9 old edition with the same exact burner.

St. Paul steam
Really great to see it running Gil, it has the unmistakable sound & deep thump of an engine of considerable size...music to my ears.

Really fantastic. It runs really well and sounds very much like a full sized engine

The cleaning continues.
I got a peak "under the hood" when I removed the rear engine plate and the blue steel lagging
which needed straightening. I just hand straightened it for now and while not perfect,
it came out pretty good. Here are a few pictures of what I uncovered during this little project.
Enjoy,
Gil
I also noticed nearly all the engine parts have the number 10 stamped on them.
