• Just finished up restoring this engine. Smoke stack support, wood base, heater, smoke stack, power cord all missing. The flywheel was painted yellow and the base was painted black.  Made new smoke stack support,  smoke stack, board and found a heater for it. Painted everything and put it back together.

• Thanks! I don't think ball handles are original.  Haven't seen any other Jensens with them. But who knows if Tom Jensen needed handles and they where there he probably would have used them. This is what it looked like when I got ot.

• I kinda like the handles to. Thats why I left them on it for now anyway. I just used red chestnut stain and polyurethane clear on wood.

  Randy, your engine looks great and I wouldn't change anything with it, but on a future project I think you should give Minwax "Provincial 211" stain a try. It was recommended long ago to me by Steve Tyner (Cedge) and is a very good match to some of my earlier Jensens.

  Did you use water based or oil based?
  
  I ask because I would prefer to use water based since I can paint in the basement and not stink up the house. For now, I've been using exterior low VOC house paint for my projects but I'd like to have the rustic wood look for some.
  
  Is there a water based poly that'll withstand hot water droplets?

• I must remember to never ask a question at my local Home Depot. They always give misinformation...
  They said water based is always interior only. Well, the home Depot website sells exterior water based!

• I used the regular Minwax gloss clear. It is for interior/ exterior use. Don't know if the water based would stand up to hot water drops or not.
