Empire Workstation (Thank You Charlie!!)
« on: June 22, 2025, 08:37:45 pm »
A while back @txlabman / Charlie and I made a trade for his Empire Workstation.  My brother made the exchange at his place and I just got it from him today, which just happens to be my birthday - what a nice present!!  I am kind of torn on my best present this year, my family got me a brand new Colt 1911 (45) Gold Cup Trophy handgun!  I really scored big this year.  Heck I don't think I have such a great birthday in many decades.

Anyways, all I have done to the engine is dust it, wipe it down with a damp cloth, and some oiling.  I am letting the sight glass fittings soak with some oil, so I can reseal them.  This set has very little playtime.  While the saw's table is rusty (pretty normal for this accessory) the rest of it is superb shape.  I am not even sure if I ever seen sight glass fittings in such great shape.  Even inside the smoke stack I can see clean brass!

Until I get it steamed up (I don't think Charlie ever steamed it), here is a picture of it.  Once I have a video, I'll post it in the video section.

Thank you so much Charlie - I really got the better end of the deal - like by a million miles ;-)

Charile posted on my YouTube video and said that it had never been fired and I can believe that.  Inside the smoke stack you could see the brass base around the screw and there wasn't any sign of sediment anywhere.  When I drain the remaining water, it was clean as I put it in.  I even drained it the water on a paper towel - the towel caught nothing.

I kind of believe this is a earlier production because the No 62's sight glass fitting's nickel is really nice.  It seems as Empire went on, the nickel on these parts was very thin.  It didn't really matter how well the engine was cared for, the nickel more or less just disappeared with normal age.

I wished it was easy to pull off the table off the saw, I would seriously think of having it re-plated.

Here is my YouTube video, I posted it also in the Video forum.
