Jensen #75 powering a Model 15 generator or 100 workshop
« on: December 05, 2024, 12:47:15 pm »
Hi all,

Will a Jensen #75 power a Model 15 generator?  I've seen a few examples on line using a Bix burner but wasn't quite sure using Esbit tablets?

I'm also hoping it will power a Model 100 workshop?  Has anyone out there given this a go?

It should easily power either one. Maybe both with a good head of steam and no leaks.

One thing about Esbit tablets is that they will "weaken" over time. Partially due to oxidation of the chemical composition, but mostly due to absorbing water out of the atmosphere. So, while fresh hot tablets will definitely power either or both of those accessories when fired under a Jensen 75, funky old tablets may not do quite so well.

I do have some very old Esbit hanging around here that the last time I used, it worked fine, but then I live in the High Desert where humidity is almost always very low. If you live in a damper, coastal environment, then your mileage may well vary!

You may want to consider using a chafing dish gel like Sterno, as that will work at least as well as Esbit, with a lot less soot and stink!

Oh yeah ...... and WELCOME to the Forum from the cool and dry Eastern Sierra!!!

Welcome aboard from Denmark!

As others have mentioned, no problem for your Jensen 75 hauling those accessories...

One small tip though, would be something that you most likely have figured out by yourself already, but just in case you have not.
Always preheat your water to the boiling point, before your pour it into the boiler.
Otherwise you'll be wasting your entire first load of tablets, on the process of raising steam alone.
Cheers

Bienvenue de France!

Yes, preheating the boiler water is a great idea.
