What if Jensen decided they wanted to take his concept and just run with it...?
(make it their own 85V)

I would certainly buy at least one.

I suppose if this fella wanted to sell his intellectual property it would be okay, it does work both ways doesn't it ? I would suggest hiring him as a subcontractor , he/she obviously have skills they need very badly.

Wow! Neat idea, but too much tooling to be made to have that as a product. It's almost like it would be an esbit fired 45?
I think I have OCD??

In the late 1950's Jensen offered a #45-A.

This was an open flame alcohol fired #45.

We have never seen one. The only evidence so far is that they are listed in the Jensen catalog brochure as was the #35-A.

Interesting, another "holy grail" offering to scour the nether regions of the world for. :)

Anyone have a photo of this in the brochure you can post?

An interesting thread.

I agree with Jensen protecting its IP.  Any patents probably expired years ago (I did a Google Patent Search and didn't find any), but Jensen certainly has the right to protect its trademarks and copyrights.

I suspect that the designer will be receiving a Cease & Desist letter soon.  I am not sure why they don't pursue royalty agreements with other builders or joint ventures.

What I worry about with Jensen is that they have lost their "thirst for innovation" and they don't seem to have any interest in anything new (which is usually a death sentence for most family owned businesses).

I feel like we are watching the founder's legacy whither away with the second/third generation (which is not uncommon with family owned businesses which rarely are successful beyond the Founder/Patriarch).

I hope I am wrong.  They have a loyal fan base here, for sure.

As far as i recall there is no picture of these in the catalogues, only a section of alcohol fired engines in the pricelist.

The 35-A mentioned by Gil, logically would have had the 75 mk.I firebox/burner, but would be very interesting to see the exact design of firebox/burner on the 45-A.

They (35-A, 45-A) are listed in some of the 1950's brochures.

Here is my mock up of what we believe a 35-A should look like.

Would think the boiler sightglass end should be at the firebox door/burner end...
Otherwise it´s as logic would dictate, if solely comparing to the 75 mk.I.

Personally i think that it might just as well be, that the 35-A in fact was intended to stay as any other 35, only with heater/insulation swapped out for ventilation holes/burner.
The 35 version available in the late 50´s, was already then an older well known model, and taking those parts away would alter the detailing/look quite a bit.
That would leave Jensen with two very different looking engines, carrying the same modelnumber at the same time...would have been a first for them, as far as i can recall.
Anyway, all speculative until some proper documentation turns up. Deliberately say documentation, as it wouldn´t take much to fake one of the versions mentioned above.
Cheers
