Chris, maybe contact (ring) PayPal and explain the situation to them. Say you've been a member for X amount of years etc etc

Late to the game and confused as ever until now - I was clicking on the link and looking at a real D32, reading the posts and wondering what everyone saw that I didn't until I finally figured out that the original was shown above in the description. I would think that it would just be a case of the item being not as advertised ( a D32) so Paypal would issue a refund. Hopefully if you let the seller know your intentions perhaps he won't go through the hassle of sending it and just cancel the sale.
Regards,
Larry

I am strongly in the camp with those advising to cancel the order.

Don't let the seller ship this item if at all possible.

Call ebay by phone and explain the whole deception.
Make it clear that upon a good look at the pictures, it is about $50-75 worth of old parts attached to some scrap wood.
Absolutely not a D-32 and not even closely related.

Get into ebay's "help and contact" area.
Call them right away.

Try here:

Scroll all the way to the bottom and select  "Call us" and do not choose contact the seller.

https://www.ebay.com/help/buying/returns-refunds/get-help-item-hasnt-arrived?id=4042&st=10

You will be given an 800 number and a code to punch in.

Best of luck.

Seller won't budge. He said open case with eBay.
eBay won't open case since I must contact seller?? I called eBay and they said it's too soon, I must wait until tomorrow.

I am a little embarrassed to say the least.

I read the ad and looked at the pictures only on my phone in mobile mode (which is blurry and small) and I thought  super deal. But after the offer was immediately accepted (which I didn't think it would be), I looked further and my heart sank.

Took me a while to figure out why I was fooled... I was not fully attentive as I was waiting for my kid to come to his room to go to bed. He was having a tantrum in the living room not wanting to go bed, so I just ignored him (I didn't want to reinforce such behavior with attention.) and told him I would wait for him in his room (mommy was out at a library get together).
So with him having a fit in the background and that noise hindered my judgement. :(

The good news is that my son eventually went to his room and I tucked him in and he is sweet once again. I've gotten good deals on eBay and I'm almost always happy with my purchases so I guess a bad deal was due...

An unfortunate occurrence, but I think we all have had a similar experience, perhaps even more than once (I've had two, one that was ameliorated rather easily with some home fabrication on my part and one hopeless case that cost me $50.00 or so).

So be of good cheer; we've all been there.

I would suggest you write back to the seller. Instruct him DO NOT SHIP UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. EBAY AND PAYPAL CASES PENDING.

You can also put up very negative feedback.
Keep it honest.
Keep it harsh.

You can always have ebay remove it once this is settled and you can let him know this.

Been there .... done that .... this all sounds so very familiar. Often it is mostly my own fault when this happens, as I don't look and read carefully enough to discover the sellers mistakes/diseptions, but sometimes it is wholly on the seller. In those cases it pays to be as unforgiving as the system allows.

In this case, the item is clearly misidentified, thus there should be no question that eBay/Paypal will find in your favor ..... but it will take time.

The seller would be smart to cut his losses in this case, and release you from the deal, before the system comes down on him officially.

The seller refuses.

I offered to compensate him for the listing fees and trouble but he refused and will ship anyway. I'll just return when it arrives or whatever eBay says to do...

Clearly the seller knows it is not legit since they refused the offer to meet somewhere in the middle. I thought euros to cancel an auction was more than generous.

As i see it
Clearly it is  a misleading add but to my opinion photos are part of the add so therefore it is buyers responsibility
To study photos .
I am sure most off us have made a dodgy purchase at some point but at the end of the day no one makes us do the buy now / bid / or put in an offer .  Caveat emptor .
You need to take responsibility for your actions .
We are all to quick to jump on dodgy sellers but your actions here put you in the dodgy buyer catergory .

Yes i do expect to get jumped on but at the end of the day I am a  honorable buyer and seller .and I own my mistakes and live with them .

Cheers

As others have said I would open a case on Ebay immediately hopefully causing him to rethink shipping it.

Not entirely off base in my opinion. The term "Buyer Beware" springs to mind. I've been burned a few times by letting my excitement rule my purchasing hand. But, I just chalk it up to a live-and-learn experience.
Chris, would you be so upset if you had made the same purchase, for the same reasons(excitement coupled with distraction) from a seller at a show? Would you immediately demand he cancel the sale? After handshakes and all?

The whole wording is a scam, I would be happy to wear the crown "Dogdy Buyer" as Dennis states above because I would be sending that back to the seller and I would be relentless with Paypal & eBay until I had been refunded.

Yeah I would be pissed if I then walked around the corner and a group of people who knew about these engines all told me that I had just bought a fake (and a poor and dangerous fake at that) and that the seller had totally scammed me by lying outright about the engine.

Sure, but a quick translate of the listing automatically set off alarms in my ears. I'm not saying he shouldn't try to get his money back if that is the direction he wants to go.
Scammers are everywhere. Maybe I'm jaded, but it's just part of life. I've been screwed over enough to know, and to also know that eBay isn't always gonna be there to back you. My ineloquent point was, be careful, think hard, and if the pictures aren't there ask for them. I they won't supply them, then that further reinforces my opinion that they are trying to bend me over.

When selling stuff, I always give buyers leeway. Good stores do that for long term business. I also offered a fistful euros to break up the deal and then upped the euros. I've been pretty generous. Clearly he knows it's a hoax as why in Earth would he not take compensation for his trouble especially if he truly believed it was genuine and he could sell it for that amount again. In my state, the law is actually on my side at least when it comes to vehicle and house sales. (I suspect it does for cheaper items as well but I just don't know. For cars and houses definitely know as the dealers are required to inform you of that law!)

So "buyer beware" and the actually isn't true anymore at least legally.
