The Psantama Blue Thunder Generators
« on: April 12, 2021, 07:18:27 pm »
The Psantama Blue Thunder Generators did we ever ascertain exactly what the stepper motors Peter used in his builds were?

While I truly do not know specifically, I suspect that what he used was much like this one listed here:

https://www.jameco.com/z/STP-42D201-37-Shinano-Kenshi-12-Volt-1-8-Step-Angle-Bipolar-Stepper-Motor_2158531.html?CID=GOOG&gclid=Cj0KCQjw38-DBhDpARIsADJ3kjmgEoM077mnsHFU2ozGcrYWjmLwcg2pHkiPOuWB6DIGEeDbCtpS42YaAlaaEALw_wcB

They are about the same size, and of a similar configuration. However the specific operational specifications could be significantly different, though I'll bet this one is actually pretty close.

Thanks Daniel, they are an amazing generator. I can light my LED just turning the pulley on my Blue Thunder slowly with my fingers.

You can do that with any stepper motor of that size, but as Daniel mentions, there´s loads of difference in their configurations/output.

I have had 3 laying around here for future projects forever, and just last week tested them.
Just one of them would reach 50V while idling as the Blue Thunder, the other two only around 30V at same speed in the mill.
All of them will light LEDs just as easily as the Blue Thunder, but there most likely would be a difference in how many they can handle at the same time.

Thanks Jan, from memory they need be wired to some electronics gizmo don't they?

Can you tell make/model of which one puts out the 50V by anything stamped on it?

Unfortunately is has no tag on it, and can´t even remember where it came from either.

It is not necessary with any electronics, if the sole purpose is to light LEDs.
Just made this little demo, by just twisting a LED onto one of the "inferior" steppers here:

No problem Jim.

However your wording confuses me slightly, as i uploaded it as "hidden".
Fingers crossed that you saw the link here, and watched the movie there, and didn´t find it on YouTube directly?

Thanks for confirming this!

I did notice the comment, but really didn´t think anything else than you´d watched it at YouTube, after finding the link in here.
Noone without the link should be able to find the movie, according to YouTube´s own description. A lot of good that does, when they proceed by inserting them in 3rd. party feeds.
