I have used the black nitrile rubber for drive bands.
About 12 years ago I got about 10 meters of each size.

It may be time to re-order. I think someone in Australia sent them to me. He bought a ton of it and passed on some pretty good savings for us.

I also got a good supply of spring drive bands around the same time.

Regarding joining them, I cut them at an angle (30-40 degrees) to give a larger surface to glue together. 

Yes.... a good quality superglue works really well.
