Our house went under contract to sell back in May. Our buyer failed to get a mortgage commitment.
After stringing us on through about 7 or more extensions for a mortgage commitment which came and went with no approval for buyer to borrow, we met here at our home, He claims his identity was stolen, that he needed to file a police report to get 2 of the 3 credit bureaus to clear his name. When I asked if he had filed the police report in New Haven where he was advised to go.... he said not yet. I asked how long he knew he had a credit problem.... He said something like 4 to 6 weeks. This to us means his story just doesn't add up. If he wanted a mortgage the only important thing he had to do was file the police report and give copies to the 2 bureaus. Smells fishy. I told him since his broker and family indicated they could access lines of credit against their business properties, he should talk with them and do this. I also wanted to see his tax returns for the last 2 years which he agreed to provide. Then Simone and I spoke with the 2 brokers involved and came up with a plan that might allow him and his family to do this beginning with half the money instead of all. We would never get the chance to present this to them. He and his family won't return calls, messages or e-mails. He won't even respond to his own broker. Less than an hour after he left on Friday, his attorney sent our attorney an e-mail saying he is terminating the deal. Reason given is we didn't give him another mortgage extension. He never even submitted an application for a mortgage which should have been done by June 25th.
An already stressful process has become stress on steroids... and then some. It's becoming a nightmare and not just for us. The seller of what should be our next home can't close on the home she is buying without us closing with her.
The seller of the home we were under contract to buy had her movers pick up her entire household on Sept 24th.... the day Simone and I were supposed to take possession. She is now living in a camper in her driveway and she is not a happy camper.... literally! The people she is supposed to buy from are now in the same boat. They cannot close on their next home until she closes with them. Who knows how many more dominos are in this broken chain.
The Office of Steam feels empty as more than 90% of my collection is resting peacefully in a climate controlled storage unit.
The Closet of Steam which once, behind glass, held over 30 Jensen pieces now has only one left and a few other pieces to take up some shelf space. The one still there is the mighty Jensen #51 Power Station. I think I deserve a break from packing and other normal distractions like work long enough for a steam-up...!!!
A month ago it looked like this...
and there were another 15-18 Jensens here in the office - not in the converted closet display cabinet.
