Rebi Vertical Flamelicker
« on: January 15, 2020, 02:27:28 pm »
This recent ebay purchase arrived today.  It appears to have never been run and came in half of the original box, which includes a picture of the engine and what I assume are the instructions written in German on the inside of the lid.  I'll have to find a translator for the instructions!

It is missing the bellows and the cap that covers the flame and directs it into the cylinder, but fortunately I have the pattern to make the bellows and have figured out the proper material to use, as well.  I could take the cap off of another Rebi engine that I own for testing purposes, but I'll have to make a reproduction cap eventually.   All of the Rebi vacuum engines are hard to find, but this vertical one is probably the rarest of the various maodels Rebi produced, and I'm happy to find one in this condition.

Oh you got that one. I was watching it and later forgot all about it. Nice grab. Do show a video when she's up and running please.
I don't believe those are actually the instructions, more like a description of the type of motor and the principle of how it works,
the dimensions, and type of fuel to use. Either way, good score.

Here you go

the REBI motor is an atmospheric machine with which the air pressure is converted into motor power.
All that is required to drive the motor is a small spirit flame, otherwise no fuel. Therefore no exhaust! The engine for the school!
The motor is used to drive small toy models instead of steam engines or electric motors.
Before commissioning, lightly oil all moving parts, including the flame inlet valve.
Only methylated spirit may be used in the fuel container. never use parrafin or petroleum!
About 8mm visible wick length gives the right flame size. The speed of the machine can be regulated by turning the spirit container
Start the engine in the direction of the arrow.

My German is a bit rusty so there may be some errors.

Congratulations, a rare engine, indeed! I 'm looking forward to seeing it running soon!

Ref Dave: Don't see any problems with your translation  :)  The only baffling one is the phrase about "turning the spirit burner" - but that's mildly confusing in German as well
