Unknown Engine, 1930's? Vintage, needs identification.
« on: August 18, 2026, 04:24:11 pm »
Hi all!

I've got a batch of older model engines that have hit my desk from an old storage I'm cleaning out. Most have plates of some description or another, largely Jensens from the 50's and 60's. But I'm not an enthusiast, so I have no idea what this one is. It's in fair shape, pretty dirty, and has no plate with any info on it. I looks like it's mostly together, and the thing that makes me think it's a 1930's piece is the materials are similar to some model trains I owned from that era.

Can you help me ID this? Thanks!

Yup. Judging by that reply, it's a pretty common one? Some Jensen type? It just doesn't have a series or serial number on it so I'm trying not to mis-identify it.

I've got a whole mess of pieces, mostly without manufactures markings, so if it's gauche to ask for help IDing them I can go somewhere else.

I can tell you it is German and pre war, could be Marklin perhaps?
Fairly rare and of some value I would think, sorry I can't be more specific

Howdy and WELCOME to the Forum from the East Side!

Perfectly okay for you to make such posts seeking information and identification.

For some reason we all love looking at pictures of steam engines and such!?!?

Certainly not a Jensen, and also not at all common. I think Dave's guess is pretty close to the mark!

Somewhere on the side of the firebox or even in the pressure gauge face there may be some embossed markings that could help tell the tale?!?!

Interesting engine. Has some Bing characteristics, e.g., feed water tank mounted on the chimney. It's a twin cylinder marine style engine. Look for a GBN trademark somewhere.
