Nice little Märklin "gearbox" Nick, congrats !
I can find it all the way through the 30´s in the catalogues, but see no trace of it post WW2 in my meager Märklin database here.
Here it is in the 1937 catalogue:

the stanchions do look Märklin to me.
Agreed, both paint and style. Would have liked them to have had the cast "M" included like other pieces...

I cannot find any markings, but this was sold as Märklin and sure looks to be...
