Could a person mount two big flywheels? Or will it interfere with the reversing engine?
I think the large flywheel would interfere with the reversing gear, however i don't see there being a problem with the non reversing models. I think the non reversing GEM model would look quite good with two of the spoked flywheels fitted, sadly it is currently out of production.

Magnificent. Really like mods.

Awesome Philip.
A cracker of an engine.
Thanks for posting the pictures and videos.
Best wishes,
Charlie

Very pleased to say the Pevensey is now running how it should after having a few issues, i'm very grateful to one member on here who helped me out, you know who you are! ;)
I did a new video showing the new pulley wheel and it powering a blue thunder with only 12PSI on the gauge. :o :o

Looking very nice Philip 8) now put it to work ;)

Congrats, Philip..!!!!
That engine is just plain superb!

I like that a lot, makes for a better setup. Since I have one coming in the mail I may have to talk to David soon.
Thanks Larry, very pleased to hear you have one inbound and i look forward to seeing it.
-
a very nice engine Philip , exceptionally more robust than a Jensen #20 , the eccentrics are vastly superior as well as the reversing mechanism.
I agree Bruce and also vastly superior to Stuart's factory 10 series reversing gear in my eyes as i've never liked the bent rod eccentrics on those. The MSM ones look so much better and are more in keeping with full size engines. ;D
-
In its current configuration it looks nothing short of a powerful and capable MACHINE!!!

I'd like to say a big THANK YOU to David (vpro) who machined me the smaller flywheel casting and drilled out the Wilesco pulley for the other flywheel.
I'd hope that you would all agree that the Pevensey looks much more complete now.

Plus i'll now be able to drive accessories off of it! ;) ;D

That engine is jewelry!
I've been thinking of getting a CMS engine, but I love twin flywheels and unfortunately they needlessly cut the crank short! I'll check out MSM
Thanks!
MSM produce some nice engines and are very good value for money. The crankshaft on them is certainly long enough to fit another flywheel/pulley which is something i plan to do with mine.

I have to say the engine is running better and better with every steaming, it is as smooth as a knife through hot butter and will now run on less than 5PSI!
-
Very nice Philip , I have always wanted one of these...& now you have me looking at them again. ..lol
Thanks for the video, you have a fine machine there 😊
Sorry Bruce! ;D seriously though they are great value for the money and i don't think you'd be disappointed if you got one.
-
Thanks guys i'm very happy with this engine, so much so i'm looking at some other bits to sell to fund getting the vertical engine to keep it company! :o ;D
My biggest regret is that i didn't get some of these engines years ago but i've corrected that now! ;)
-
An amazing looking, and very well running addition Philip.
Congratulations !!!
-
I bet you have a grin from ear to ear Philip :)

Very nice, indeed.

Beautiful Philip, could not ask for more in terms of looks and functionality...ticks right over !!!

Yes i'll have to email John the link Daniel!
It turns over real smooth, there is a slight bit of end float on the crankshaft but nothing major. It is very powerful like my 10H and i couldn't stop the flywheel with my finger at high pressure. I also love the fact i can adjust the cut off and make it work expansively which makes a boilerful last a bit longer at the expense of power.
I plan to get one of those PMR bronze flywheels to fit on the crank which i think will set it off.
-
That is truly wonderful Philip .... it runs just as good as it looks, which is saying quite a lot really!
Perhaps you should send a link to this thread to John@MSM in way of thanks.

And here is the video of it on live steam:

Somehow the word SUMPTUOUS rings true for the photos of that engine!
-
Oh my that is a BEAUTY 8) Can't wait to see it running ;)
-
And I agree about Stuart - I just can't bring myself to pull the trigger on a purchase of one at their inflated costs anymore.
I can't help thinking that Stuart are pricing themselves out of the market a little bit, especially on their lower end products such as the 10 series. They have now got a fair bit of competition from both Miniature Steam Models and PM Research, not to mention most recently domestically with Chiltern Model Steam. One of the things that Stuart are doing is re-releasing some of their older models like the Progress Oscillator which is very good to see and i hope they continue to add stuff from their extensive back catalogue.

Here is the MSM Pevesney mounted on it's new wood base:

I'll post up a video of it running soon.

Philip, I think you have landed a fine piece of machinery there. Love that it is all bronze/brass...never liked cast iron coming in contact with steam !!! I shall have to peruse their offerings!
Rog
At the USD AUD currency conversion Rog, these engines are great value for you guys presently.
Here is their site Rog: https://miniaturesteammodels.com/
Hope i don't cost you too much money!!! ;D

Fantastic engine Philip and as you said a great price compared to what Stuart ask.
-
Lovely Philip .... just lovely!!!
-
That's a good looking engine for sure - I would also love to have one someday. And I agree about Stuart - I just can't bring myself to pull the trigger on a purchase of one at their inflated costs anymore.

I need to say thanks to a few folks who helped me get my second engine from MSM. Firstly to Nick who bought my vulpine triple enabling me to purchase this engine, secondly to Jim who provide lots of helpful advice and lastly to John@MSM who built the engine for me.
Initial impressions are very good and the casting quality and machining is first rate and much the same as the Tyne i bought before. Even with the customs and shipping it was still half the price of what Stuart would charge for a factory built 10H and that doesn't even come with reversing gear or a lubricator!! and this engine is all bronze too. Much as i like Stuart Models i do have to question their pricing structure!!

The base in the photos is just temporary and i will post more photos when it is mounted and hopefully a video of it on steam.
