Hi Rich mine ran for 3 seconds and stopped on its first run. I checked for a spark by lifting up the rubber boot on the spark plug and pulling the ht lead out. Hold it near earth and turn the engine. Mine had no spark, the centre battery had popped out with the vibration. I put 2 elastic bands around the battery's and it then started. If you've got compression a spark and fuel plus the carb needle is open 1/4 turn it should start
Good luck Brian

Got the vertical hit and miss and it will not run. Got it to fire off once for like 3 seconds and that was it. ???
What I did notice it spits fuel out of the fuel tank vent and carburetor. How do you tell if it got spark, short of pulling the spark out. I did turn it by hand and hear no arc pop or flash like the horizontal engine.
I read on other posts where users would use one O ring on bottom groove and it ran. How do you get to the O rings on this engine? Take off head and or cylinder?
Also does this take 2 AA batteries and dummy or 3 AA batteries. The ignition module seems to be the same as the horizontal engine.
And last but not least I have these engines and they do not run right out of box. Very frustrating. ???
Thanks, Rich.............
