That table looks like it would be a nice/heavy duty TV tray, much better than the junk wooden ones sold in the store...
-
Thanks Jan, i agree it`s a neat old design.
Started another folding card table this morn but then my hip started hurting so bad i had to quit, can hardly walk.
I think it`s a pinched Sciatic nerve.
Now a snow storm coming tomorrow.
-
Sure is pretty cool that design Lenn :)
Love how it folds to save a lot of space, while still appearing quite solid and stable when opened.
-
Got er done, pretty cool design, gotta put a little poly on it yet.
Here`s the link to the original. :)

Thanks Nick and Larry.
The benefit of having a saw mill and now a planer we can make what we like. :)
-
That looks great Lenn - wish I had boards that wide to use!
-
Nice work Lenn, she should be happy with that one

There`s a idea Nick. 8)

Cool things those folding tables, well done !
Would make a good z-scale layout table... fasten everything to it but the train, fold it up and stash away when not in use. When wanting to run again fold it back down and set it next to you in the recliner :D
-
Thanks Jan. :)

Lenn, you're turning into a true woodworking craftsman - very nice work!
-
Thanks Nick, the design goes way back and old ones can sell up to 15,000.
Always wanted to make one so i did. :)
-
Clever design, does it save a lot of space when folded up?
-
Today we made a folding table, the legs and bottom board are from a garage sale table.

That turned out great Lenn!
-
Thanks fellers, the hand gun is a Colt Combat Gov. model. :)
-
Looks way good from here .... but perhaps some satin fabric as a liner would add a nice colorful touch?
-
Nice piece..... and nice box too!
-
Naw i can lift it out pretty easy, besides i probably won`t use it much anyway.
-
Just thought that you'd have to use your left hand to pick up that 1911.
-
Thanks Jan and Larry, there`s leather in the bottom.
No i`m right handed why do ya ask?
-
Good looking box Lenn - doesn't get much better. Just out of curiosity are you a lefty?
-
Looks great Lenn (https://emoji.tapatalk-cdn.com/emoji482.png)
Perhaps put some green felt fabric on the inside?
-
I`m no pro for sure but take a look at my 1911 box.

Thanks Bruce, it`s not to hard after getting the jig set right and ya figure out the sequence of turning and flipping them.
I`m going to try some more today and it will be neat when i get the Dado blade so i can make wider fingers.
-
very fine joinery Lenn, would have never suspected it was your first venture in this area.
-
Thanks fellers. :)
-
That turned out good Lenn - looking forward to seeing your pistol boxes.
-
I agree .... very nice especially first time trying.
A fellow once said it always good to be very good and even better to be very good and lucky!
Well done, Lenn!
Gil
-
Thanks Jan, i got lucky.
-
Would never have suspected that this was a first, very well done Lenn !!!
-
Thanks Dennis. 8)
-
very nice joints .
A little bit of useless help
I used to glue the top to the sides so a completely. Sealed box
Scribe lines for hinges the with table saw cut the lid off with a little bit of the side 1/2 inch or so down .
This gives a good fit and helps to prevent the lid warping .
Cheers
Dennis
-
I like the idea of pistol boxes, please share those pics when you make them 8)
-
Thanks Nick, i gotta fit the top a little better but though it was a aggravation the first time it should be easier next time.
-
Very Nice! and Very Impressive! 8)
-
Made a finger joint box today for the first time, used a regular table saw blade but have a Dado blade on order.
It`s kind of a pain in the butt with all the flip here and turn there but we got er done.
Plan on making a couple pistol boxes.
