Title: Re: Sacrilege? Convert Jensen 25G to Gas?

I also would start with a 75. Along with the firebox you need the parts that hold the dry fuel tray to support the burner. If I recall correctly I lowered the plate that the tray sits on to clear the firebox opening. It also burns better with a little more clearance between the burner and boiler. I love Bix burners and using gas especially when powering a generator. Seems kind of foolish using hundreds of watts of electricity to make a fraction of a watt of electricity. That’s just my opinion and a lot of people really like electric heating. Good luck with it!

Hey Ted, how are you. I have about seven electric Jensen's and a couple meth or gas ones. I like the electric ones better, now. At first they would heat up and stay up. Had to keep unplugging them and plugging them back in. Then Roger from (The Temple of Steam), showed how he used a dimmer switch, a cord and an electrical box to dial in your electric steam engine.

Tim is correct, start with a #75  that way your not needlessly paying for a heater you don't intend to use & you won't have to gut all those components out of the firebox, you can always add a Jensen  #15 generator to the plant. As Tim said...the Jensen #25 & the Jensen #75 are the exact same plant...the #75 minus the electric heater & cord.
Good luck with your project & please keep us informed of your progress .😊

My #75 uses a 120mm burner. Good luck with your conversion. The #75 on gas will turn a generator too. I mounted mine on 14 inch by 18 inch plywood with screws and run a Ginny and various tools/toys. Gas is great for dialing back pressure to lengthen your runs!

The model #75 firebox is what you need. It is the same engine on metal base, no generator.

Really been thinking about a new Jensen 25G - they are such a bargain. But, I am not a fan of electric-powered and thinking of converting to a bix burner. Want to do this right so thought I'd ask if there are opinions and any advice how best to proceed. I am assuming I will have to cut the electric fire box or buy a spare designed for dry spirit. Which model dry spirit firebox would I buy (that is the same size)? Also, do I remove the electric heater or leave it alone. How big a project is this? I did send a similar email to Jensen but got no reply.
Thx!
