What an incredible find!!!

Hi Mike, Your Daniel Davis Motor is a great acquisition and a superb addition to your collection.
You have done a great job cleaning it and getting it straightened out.
Congrats...!!!
Gil
Thanks Gil! I wish I still had it, but an Austrian collector made me an offer on it I couldn’t refuse, so I had to let it go. Apparently, it was worth right around $10K. About the same time, two Model T Fords in a friend’s collection became available, and now they are in my collection. They are way more fun. 😁😁

Mike,
Can you tell us where you sourced that faux ignition battery cover ? I really want one of those things, but have not been able to find one .
Don Jones
I bought the fake dry cell on eBay a number of years ago. I can’t recall seeing any recently, but one seller I do remember selling them was “tignal”

Hi Mike, wondering if you would be open to a good offer on this motor. I collect this maker (when I can find them, which isn't too often!) and would love to hear more about your research on it. Anyway I'm reachable by email and text if you want to get in contact. Thanks so much.

That's quite an amazing piece.

Holy Cow! That's crazy! :o :o

Mike,
What an incredible find! I have some nice early motors, but still can't help drooling over yours! We may have to have a seperate
forum "early electric motor" category, although i guess the Generator category is close enough.
It isn't Don Gfell from The Kent, Akron Oh. area that you tried to notify is it? I know him from collecting radios 50 years ago. He also had one of the largest collections of Early Edison devices including motors and phonos.

I can’t remember his name at the moment, but I believe he was a professor at Kenyon College.
It was Professor Greenslade at Kenyon College that I tried to contact without success.
I was recently successful in making contact with a man that runs The Sparks Museum in Washington state. He has been the only person I have been able to talk to about this early piece. He apparently has a collection of Daniel Davis pieces and had them appraised back in the 1990s. He said his motor like mine was valued at $12,500 which I think is just nuts! I’ll believe it only if I see something sell for that kind of money. Any takers??😂😂

I never heard back from the seller about the missing parts. Didn’t have high hopes either.
Bummer... but I guess that is asking a lot for an ebay seller to track down parts from a yard sale. Too bad they went missing especially if they were recently removed.
Here’s a photo of what it looked like when I got it.
Looks way better after you worked your magic

Mike:
You did a great job cleaning it up!
Thanks for posting the “before” photo.

It is a great piece even without the missing parts!
Thanks for posting.
Their were a number of pre-1900s electric Motors in the Cabin Fever and they all sold for big bucks.
You can see one in the 2020 Cabin Fever videos on crazydougs table (which sold for a more reasonable price than the others).
Thanks, Charlie!
I’d kind of like to know what this piece may be worth, but I’ve never seen anything like it sell before. Pretty sure I did ok when I bought it. I don’t have a fortune in it. Lol

Here’s the only photo I could find of a complete example.

Like listening to a metronome (I had to google that...)
Looks like it ended up in the right hands for the needed repairs, would sure be great if the previous owners from the yard sale can find the missing parts...

I snagged this piece early last year, but just got around to uploading a video about it. I tried to contact a professor at a college here in Ohio who is supposed to be an authority on these type motors, but got no reply. The only photos I could find of other examples are in university collections and the Smithsonian! I explain all about it in the video. Enjoy!
