Very nice engine Nick. I don’t have anything that old in my collection and it’s in great condition.

Thanks!!! I expect that the twin will have the inner shell, but it may have been dropped at some point to save money. There's an earlier version of your Young America, you have an etching of it on the box. That's the version before being "improved". It doesn't appear to have a screw top, and its got beads on the flywheel spoke for a counterweight.

@Nick, based on my research the 1873 date is correct +/- one year. Buckman started advertising the engine in April of 1872. This is a very special Young America. One thing that would help me with my research is to know if this particular engine has a double-walled boiler as shown in this patent (https://patents.google.com/patent/US124194A/) which is specific to the Little Giant two-cylinder model. Buckman's advertising never used the word "Improved", but it was used in an article about the Little Giant
It has the “conoidal” shape, but not “corrugated” and there is no inner shell, it is single wall. I do have a larger single and twin “bee-hive” shape boiler at another location that I will definitely have to check…

The boiler is actually copper on this one. It was sold with the following description: "No. 1, copper bottom, burnished copper boiler, brass stand, neatly packed in handsome box with directions" (Price by mail, $1.50) - 1873
Sure wish it had the whistle and instructions... but having the box is very special :)
