Title: Re: Turbines
Post by: yussufhippo on March 19, 2020, 11:50:57 am
Please allow me to introduce my recently acquired turbine here. Needless to say I was very happy to get it -for a very good (=low) price, btw.
Still, I have not been able to establish the maker with certainty. I would say a classic German one, I tend to believe Bing at the moment (unless it were a very well done BITSA fake!?) - but although I have searched the net and presented it in another forum, as yet no other example has shown up of the whistle, the boiler house or the turbine itself. The chimney is quite obviously not original. Another example of the distinctive water gauge cover is being offered as a spare part on German ebay at the moment and that as "early Doll", but I have my doubts, as I have not seen this cover on a Doll engine so far. So please, in case you can show me similar items or supply any other kind of evidence or expertise - you are most welcome!

The letters at the turbine base are "DRGM" = "Deutsches Reich Gebrauchsmuster" German Reich protected design, so definitely pre WWII.
If you need more details or measurements, just let me know

Great thread, great reference.

Agree Scott.

I really enjoyed all of these turbines and have been on the lookout for an old German one.  The prices are very high. So, I will keep looking.

Somehow I missed this thread earlier.

You have some very nice Turbine Engines.

I have two (Empire and a Doll).

Here is the Doll running.

First of all, I've never heard of Wilesco T125, then I see all of your other ones and I must say you're the master of the turbine.
Really love the Atomic Plant except for when I saw the red blinking light. Made me want to duck and cover.  :o
Some amazing steamers you have there.

Thanks for the comparison, you will need a big boiler for that one!

Hi Nick,
I'd say that the Hurricane is comparable to the Jensen in size.
I don't remember if he had these on E bay or not, I think I asked him if they were available after seeing one on line.
It's been a couple of years so I'm sure anymore, after a certain point the things I've purchased have become a blur. :)
Here are some comparison shots for you.

Yes that was a fun one to build, I'm thinking of using a D28 boiler for the Hurricane build.

How much bigger is the Hurricane? Was that a one-off or production model?

My Gintscel Hurricane is much larger that the ones in the T125 or the Atomic.

I am currently working on a boiler that will sustain it's higher steam requirements.

Nope, No outside shots in winter for me, but I know the Jensen heater could easily keep up with the outside temp and still produce steam.

To save you from freezing your hands  ;)  :D

Interesting. I think I've been deprived in life, because I've never seen a real turbine engine.

Nice and clean Empire  8)  Mine has a mostly green spotted boiler and needs some paint...

Didn't know you had a 95G, I dragged the whole family to Chicago last spring to pick one up that I found for sale  :D :D

Have you taken any outside on a cold day?
