That is cool Doug, and that battery looks to be about 140 years old too.

What a great vintage motor, another one saved. Great work.

Doug, amazing artifact ! Do you have a closeup picture showing the commutator?
Cbwho: there are also small a/c dynamos on ebay and amazon that can couple via drive belt your demo motor (or steam engine) . They come with a little red LED and will light up with only the effort of spinning with fingertips. I recently got a ~8$ “ Crocsee 3 phase ” that’s fun to experiment with.

Seeing this cool vintage electric motor inspired me to get this from eBay:

Only $7 with free shipping. My plan is to bin the plastic and replace with wood to "old time" it. I'll brush paint the armature black and spin it up via large flywheel while the engine does other things as well. Hopefully it'll light a single LED?

Very nice. Enjoyed seeing it working.

Very cool, Doug!
That seller has some very nice pieces on eBay right now.

Great old motor Doug - really in nice condition. Google Translate yielded "Start with fine control" whatever that means.

This hundred forty year old electric demonstration motor arrived from Austria in perfect condition. It was well packaged and took a month to get here, but it works great, and is in museum-quality condition. In fact, it looks like it came out of a museum, with some sort of catalog number on the base and something in what I suppose is German written on the base, as well. I'll have to get someone to translate.
