Hi Stoker,
My attempt at a joke obviously failed! I do speak American and agree switch makes more sense than point. I do have problems with Wenglish (local dialect) never knowing when 'Over by here' or Over by there' should be used.

Tony, in this country real railroads referred to the mechanical apparatus required for a train to turnout from one track onto another as "a switch". The term "turnout" came into vogue in model railroading due to the need to differentiate between the "railroad switch" and the "electrical switch", or so I'm given to understand.
