Title: Re: Finally! A green one!
Post by: Belugawhaleman on March 18, 2019, 04:46:21 am
I use the old school Mamod spirit burner with the scuttle on with denatured ethanol. If you use Esbit, perhaps that may affect it? I've also noticed a lot if variance in engines...

I also used a meths burner with mine. My blue SW1 has a trunion spring that I believe is too tight. It is
Completely compressed when the bolt is fully tightened leaving the cylinder tight on the port surface. Also, I found
a tight spot in the cylinder. I lapped the piston in the cylinder so that it moves more freely but I feel I need to
shorten or replace the spring.

Thanks guys for all your replies. I enjoyed the video too. I bought a blue SW1 in December and
fired it but I didn't get it run as well as yours did in your video.

I have a very nice blue one, but the green ones are indeed special.

Oh, I agree that it's a fun engine, just that my shelves are beyond full and these take up a lot of space  :D

Nick, check out the fun:

Mamods might not be the most sophisticated engines but they are fun.

Nick, you don't have one?? Fodens are fabulous. I think mine was unfired when I got it off eBay. Really good deal if I remember. I fired it but ironically didn't drive it yet.

Nope, I came to the point where I had too many Mamods and told myself "no more", but Paul is not making this an easy rule to follow  :D

Nice find Paul and unfired !

Thanks Jim.
I had a lot of trouble posting the pics however. First they were there, then not, then small etc. I kept trying to
Use the modify feature, but never got it right. What's the best way to post multiple full size pics?
