Thanks Rog , Jan & everyone, I like going down paths not generally taken ...it puts the excitement & fun/joy in builds for me. The quickest way to get me to build something is to say it's impossible to build. ..or never been done before. 😉👍
-
Rog said it !!!
Well done Bruce
-
Bruce, I'd forgotten how cool that 55 "Big Rig Edition" was... you do stuff no one else does and do it very well!!

Bruce, great work on the Jensen. Do people modify the engines to have the steam exhaust go up the chimney?

its been done, here for instance is a dbl stack version...

You did a very fine job on that Bruce, well done !

I plan to be at Rollag this year! Nick, we 3 should meet at a spot. I haven't been there for almost 20 years. Looking forward to the Case Expo.
Bill (Airspyder) usually attends Rollag (he lives near Anoka) and "Kevin Klein" has in the past too
I'm not looking forward to the 150 Case crowd... it was huge in Andover, can't imagine how many will be at Rollag to see it...

What is this 'steam bug' that people talk about? I must be inoculated :)
there is no known cure Jim, I believe one takes this to their everlasting reward . ;)

Great work modifying and tuning the 55-G, Bruce...!!!
Shane will be real proud with that one!

he's been bitten pretty good by the steam bug

Early Caterpillars, I must meet him! and I go to Rollag nearly every year
-
Matter of fact Nick he mentioned Rollag & displays some of his Dad's early Caterpillars there & a collection of "Crosly" little autos that he has .
Your right , it's way up north....he told me it was about 68 mi. To the nearest Wal-Mart.
-
Nick , he lives in Hallock, MN ,& he's brand new to steam & i did invite him to join us. Maybe he will (he's been bitten pretty good by the steam bug) 😊
Hallock, that’s pretty much Canada... been there once when my dad had to do some work up there, about a 400 mile drive from here. He isn’t too far from Rollag, one of the largest steam shows in the state and I wonder if he knows about the Estevan model engineering show in Saskatchewan.

thanks everyone for the kind words, it really is a labor of love, I just can't stand to see them not run as good as they are capable of. 😉 I studied it good and hard for hours on where to locate the governor , eventually ending up where I placed it, it was awful hard to drill and tap that new hole on a brand new engine😨
-
Good work Bruce, interesting to see it from new to modded item. I remember when you had to fettle a new model #20G, you have worked your magic on this #55G and as Roger has already said i don't think i've seen one run as slow as that in both directions!
-
Lovely engine Bruce, the modifications you have made to the engine help it run at a low speed. Great videos.
-
Bruce, I know you spent some "quality" time getting that baby tuned, and it shows. I don't ever think I have seen a 55 run that slow in both directions. Superb work.

Very interesting... would love to know if Shane is anywhere near me, or if he goes to any local shows... maybe send him an invite to this place?

Charlie , It is on it way to MN. As I write this, it was sent to me on behalf of a fellow steamer who wanted some work done to it. I spent about 6 hrs on it (2 hr's getting it tuned in good) the rest on the faux governor & special inverted cone pulley, and modifying the generator. The rest was just fun time 😊

Good looking modifications Bruce - really helped upgrade that Jensen.
-
Amazing how well you got that running at such low pressure 8)
-
Well done Bruce.
I really enjoyed the videos.
Is this one for your collection or will it be offered for sale?
You did some fast work here. Looks like less than 48 hours to finish the mods.
Regards,
Charlie

Boy oh boy Bruce enjoyed watching all three videos. Wow what a difference after you worked your magic on it. Those Chinese govs sure do look nice.
You turned this into a sweet runner.

This was something that a customer (Shane) sent directly to me from Jensen, A brand new #55G, it was sent to me to convert the Generator over to roller ball bearing & put on a faux governor & anything else I wanted to do to it. I hesitated to put this on here initially, but in the end it all came together well, I spent the better part of Saturday morning fettling with it.
unboxing & 1st run...this is a long video & some FF may be necessary in spots

after Mods running on compressed air , better detailed video of performance differences.
