You were right, gearing far too high, so good it was mentioned at this stage.
-
The RPM's are pretty high on the Mamod oscillators, so for what it is worth I find a 20:1 reduction is about right for a realistic speed on the TE's, you are working with smaller diameter driving wheels so that will have to be taken into consideration.
I had overlooked this and it is now an area of concern but well pleased you mention it.
I will try it now but suspect you will be proved right.
If so, as I want to complete my 4 inch before I pop my clogs, I shall have to find it a new home.

Good looking project, hex head bolts in frame are a nice touch, have you checked the gearing, from my experience with TE's it may have to be geared down a bit more.
Point taken on gearing - thanks.
I have used meccano gears to date and selected the ones that were in proportion to the full size engine so trying to keep looking realistic.
On reflection I think best to steam up and test at this stage before proceeding.
Glad you mentioned it - thanks.

That is really well done - a very nice piece of craftsmanship!

I googled as you said. Wow!
On the to do list for visiting the UK: go to a vintage steam event! So many cool machines and it's neat time see the different manufacturing.

Marvelous steering. I am surprised that I haven’t seen that in practice on big steamers. Very clever.
Where did you get a ready supply of chain?
The steering, bit of a challenge, is as per full size. If you google Robey Tandem Roller you should get full size machines.
The chain is stainless from Meccano Spares in uk -- https://www.meccanospares.com Gears are meccano.
Thanks to all for the favorable comments.

That is shaping up into an awesome build.
Great work!
