Sorry for digging up a old post but thank you for this post, I just got a #17 and there is hardly any crank left, luckily I found a source at Classic Tin Toy Co. Inc. (https://classic-tin-toy-co.myshopify.com/)
But the main reason why I was searching for a photo of a #17 was the whistle. My whistle won't screw into the tank anymore and I was beginning to think the engine didn't come with a whistle.
- The whistle doesn't really look at any other Weeden I have seen.
- With the whistle installed, there isn't a pressure valve.
- I took a pressure valve from my #14 and it screwed in perfectly fine.
So, I began to think someone decided to put some random whistle on the tank, that is until I found the photo on this post! Its a small miracle the whistle hasn't been lost. I think this is a earlier #17, mainly by the design of the governor topper - its the "slimmer" design (that I personally like more).

Thanks for the advice, it looks like the original crank broke off and lodged itself somewhere in
the engine, a previous owner has then made a replacement and used it like that.
Could anyone give me a rough idea as to when the engine was made as over the lifetime of this
engine i know there were changes made to it.
Thanks again Trevor.

Looks like it’s the crank. Very common for these to be loose. Likely made from lead, could always pour a new one or try repairing this one with JB weld
JB weld ??? Butcher
It looks like a chunk is missing, so fill it with JB weld, file it back to original shape and use it for casting a new one

As i see it .
Cast a new one from printers lead or even Mazac .
Close the hole in yours A bit and press it back on .
Gentle taps with a rod and hammer around the hole should work .
The one in the top photo the screw looks wrong

From the photo it does not look broken, is there another bit to it.

I was hoping one of the Weeden No.17 owners could help me, i've had this engine for a
number of years and recently picked it up and the part in the second photo fell or broke
off, can anyone tell me what it is and where i could get a replacement.
Thanks Trevor.[attachimg=1][attachimg=2]
