What an unbelievable engine, I'm so happy to see it running and glad you shared. I hope to see it at a show sometime, especially since it's roots are so close to home. I wish I had a fraction of your talents.

IF only! I wish I had run across that little gem while it was still sitting in the corner of someone's shed before they knew the value of it. I knew it was something rare and I thank the folks on the forum for identifying it. I really have to wonder where it ended up going, not local I'm sure. It wasn't complete but most of it was there. What I noticed was missing were the cross head slides. Probably still in a box of parts somewhere, I just hope they get discovered and married up with the rest of the engine.

Thanks for the heads up. It is a beautiful model and with no more that a picture to work from you certainly are a master machinist. Now that I know the manufacturer I was able to find some information on that rare beast. It actually might have some roots here in Wisconsin as well as Minnesota since it appears it might have been built in Eau Claire by Northwestern Iron and Steel Works.

Wow, Thanks RedRyder! That's it! It must have been a production engine at one time if someone built a scale model of it. But I sure would like to know what it was and a little more information about it. It still seems odd that as many shows as I've been to across the country I've never seen one.

I've never seen anything like it and it has me perplexed. It's in pieces which makes it even harder to ID but this much I have figured out:

It is a sideshaft with a flyball governor. It has a fixed piston and a reciprocating cylinder! Not sure if it might be a patent prototype or someones crazy attempt to circumvent a patent. I'd be interested to know if anyone out there has ever seen anything like this.
