Title: Re: PM Research steam kit #3 Bronze (base) Rare?

That was a fine run of a nice older PM Research #3, but I think you could have run about a dozen of them off of that great boiler, with steam to spare!

Yes for sure Daniel :)

I purchased one of these from John Loughner a few years ago, just never got around to running it on steam  ::)

Rare or not...it is a very nice kit.

I wouldn’t paint it either.

This will be a fun build. 🤠

Thanks Stoker! Mine shows #3BM on the box....I am kind of thinking of contacting the seller to see if he has any more, not sure I need a pair of them but it's pretty cool.

Something they offered early on, but not anymore!

I've had one for quite a few years that is essentially all brass or bronze, except the crankshaft and base, but that is just what they still offer today #3BI, and yes they do offer a #3A in aluminum.

Geoff (ozsteamdemon) had one of the large #1 Steam Drilling Engines that was all bronze and brass if I recall correctly, and that was something to behold. Likely from the same era as your #3.

So .... to answer your question, I'm not sure it could truly be called "Rare" (though it may well be), so much as it is just the early version of the kit. I think we'd all agree that is a great find you've made there ... Congrats!!!

The date on blueprint is 1996 but that is likely the last time it was updated. It was just a pleasant surprise to see all that Bronze when I opened the box. She is likely less than 25 years young.[attachimg=1]

All righty then....here you go! I am torn....it would be a shame to cover all that Bronze with paint so I am trying to decide if polish ALL the sand cast character out or leave some.....[attachimg=1]

I received a PMR #3 engine kit, the box was old and stained and blueprint faded...the big surprise was the main base was cast from bronze, I have seen cast iron and also aluminum but never bronze...if anyone shows interest I will post photos tonight.
