Awesome engine!  It's good to see such a nice engine get a good home and some TLC.

Major congratulations Mike , not only did you snag a #50 , but a early riveted boiler model. I know it was a labor of love to clean that beast up , you have it looking great.
Very happy for you ! 😊👍

Thanks, Bruce!

Once I got home and had some dinner last night, I told myself I was going to just fool with it a bit and get some rest, but once I started, there was no stopping until I saw it run, and that was at exactly 1:37am!

What a nice addition Mike, congratulations!

Not much beats getting a long wanted item into the collection  :)

Thanks, Jan!

It is a good feeling when you fill one of those empty spots!

Seeing the early bids, I was expecting this to easily bring another $1000... you did very well on this Mike, congrats again!

Thanks, Nick!

Congrats Mike...!!!

I am real happy someone in our circle of enthusiasts was able to snag it.

That last photo confirmed my belief that there is a great engine underneath all that dust and crud.

Had I won it, I would have done same as you. It is also 10 hours round trip for us.

Gil

Thanks, Gil!

Have you ever seen one where the base split like this one? It’s like the board shrunk and the only place it could give way was in the center. The spacing of the boiler and engine are not altered at all. The strips on the end grain are still solidly glued or however they are attached.

The ding in the boiler is a bummer and something was also dropped on the smoke stack flare and flattened part of it.

My wife and I hit the road yesterday morning headed for Penn Yan, NY to pick up my new toy. ;D It was a 10 hour round trip, but it was nice to get away for the day.

I’ve brought home some pretty filthy engines in the past, but this one was, by far, the filthiest! There were dust bunnies the size of cotton balls all over this thing. Piles of mouse droppings under the engine. Just a thick layer of dirt and oil scum over the entire thing. It really cleaned up nice and I am very pleased with it. It’s a long ways from perfect, but very presentable. I still have to fool around with the feed water pump yet as it is not moving water. I have a feeling it has gummy oil in it. The boiler had a bunch of oil in it too.

The buyer’s premium and the sales tax were a bummer, but I’m happy with what I paid. I expected to be outbid.

It runs really nice, which is not surprising. Lol

Not a steal , but still on the modest end for what your getting , is the generator age correct , maybe I can't see it on my cell phone , but I didn't see the damage to the boiler.

I bid on it and Randy bid on it but neither of us were in towards the end.

I ran numbers on a calculator and to bid again would have us approaching 4,000 with the premium & 8% NY sales tax.
Add another 3% if paid by credit/debit card. Also no assurances that another bid or two would have won it.

It looks very nice machine that needs only a bit of wood work and a good cleaning if you can get past the substantial ding on the back side of the boiler.
