Just got my plasma ball. Works great on PMR generator. Thanks Jan for the idea. :D
Your most welcome, fun little accessory ain´t it? :)
...and thanks for confirming the PMR genny as a good alternative to power these.
I do rate them as one of the best out there, and was slightly confused by Don stating that his wouldn´t.

Still waiting for my Austrian genny to arrive. Tracking stopped 3 weeks ago.
Arrrggghhhh!

The stepper gennys won´t power it, the voltage drop under load is simply too large.
Would however have assumed that the PMR would, without even breaking a sweat, being listed as 10V/1A.
Have you tried spinning it at high rpm (2000-2500) with a drill or similar, and measured the voltage then?
Might be an issue with the genny, as i do believe it should be capable of driving this.
...and in the opposite end of the scale, to much voltage won´t be good for the electronics either.
Would be wise to measure voltage as one speeds it up, to find the correct speed with no more than 5V DC (while connected to the plasmaball).

Thank you Jim. I have tried using my Blue Thunder generator and also tried my PM Research generator. Neither one would light up my Plasma Ball.
I’ll watch eBay for a listing. Don

What generator (that is currently available for purchase) is the best choice to use to power a plasma ball ? Thanks!
I've had mine working with a PM research genny Don, but I have opted (and ordered) to get the same one Jan used in his set up that
I'm planning on unabashedly plagiarizing the build because its just so cool!
Here's a link to the seller of the one Jan used, he has nothing listed presently but that's usual as his auctions have just finished. He should list some new gennys soon -
