I want to thank all the entrants for this month. It made choosing just one an exceptionally difficult process !

Incidentally that Bischoff compound is among the very rarest of rare.

Jim, that is a great story. It is history worth preserving. Thanks for sharing it here.

Regarding the carousel and ferris wheel.... what a disaster when someone with the slightest bit of interest in preservation could have likely disassembled both pieces enough to get them out without destroying them.

Thank You.

Since this engine was chosen to be the EOTM from the exceptional group of entries that were presented, I feel I should tell the sad story behind it, and explain how I came to own it.

This engine was designed and constructed in the early 1900's by a man who emigrated to the United States from one of the Scandinavian countries, possibly Denmark or Sweden.  It is very well constructed, and the flyball governor which is driven off the crank by bevel gears does control the speed of the engine by shortening the travel of the "D" valve so there is a shorter admission time.  I have only run this engine on air, but it runs very smoothly.

Here is the sad part of this story.  In addition to building the Steam engine and a boiler (which I don't have), the man also built a 6 foot diameter Ferris wheel, and a 6 foot Carousel in the basement of his home.  All hand carved and painted and truly beautiful according to the man who I got this Steam engine from and who is the teller of this story.  Long story short, after the builder died, the heirs came in to clear out the estate and chopped everything to bits to get it out of the basement.

The man who sold me this engine said that this was about all that was saved, and he was very happy it was going to a place it would be appreciated and cherished for the work of art that it is.

Well now how about that ..... the one I voted for actually won this time around ..... doesn't seem to happen very often.

The reason the voting was so close this month is that they were all exceptional entries, any one of which could easily have won on another day! What a group to have to choose from!!

Congratulations to the winner .... what a fine old steam engine that is !!!!!!!!!!!

I guess the criterion I should use here is ..... which of these engines would I most like to bring home?

That makes the answer very easy for me ..... ALL OF THEM!!!  ;c)
