Hi,

I once tried a calculation based on prices and salaries from around 1900, it turned out that a machine like this would take a weeks salary for a medium class worker.

...I have just found a catalogue entry for this engine from 1899 (Christmas edition...).
The price given is "18Mk", and "20Mk" for the version with water pump.
On the internet I found that for 1899, a realistic exchange rate would be 17,82€ for 1Mk (Goldmark), so the price would be 320,76€. Cheap in comparison to actual WILESCO or MAMOD prices...
Or in their own words "Vorstehende Maschine ist bez(üglich) der Ausführung und des Preises ohne Konkurrenz" (the aforementioned engine is without competition regarding its quality and price)!

Hello Thomas,

please do not forget that money had a completely different value at that time, and steam engines of this size and quality were almost unaffordable for a normal worker.

Hello Arnold,

once again a great performance.  Both the machine and the model. The condition is very good. From what I have seen of you so far, you must have a terrific collection. I am already looking forward to your next presentation. But first, thank you for this presentation.

Hello Juergen, thanks for your comment - yes that is a very nice one and I'll show another one soon - but that will remain a secret for a while !! Cheers Arnold

Thank you Thomas for the Lipsia Sheet - very informativ and I would like to buy some for 20 Reichsmark! ;D
But 120 years ago work was paid at 0.20 cents an hour - so you had to work 100 hours net
to have the money for the engine - that was not affordable for every family. Today we can be happy that life is a little easier.
Greetings from the upper lake, Arnold

Hi Arnold,

Congratulations with your beautiful Schoenner/ LLA Lipsia, it is in perfect condition, very hard to find.
Got my Lipsia this week too, it is a sliding valve type and in less good condition, it needs some restoration.
On my Lipsia they made some cut-outs in the wooden base, probably to run the drivebelt throug.
Noticed that yours has similar repaired cut-outs.
I also managed to get an original commercial leaflet from 1897, just a nice addition.

Thanks for sharing the video of this beautiful machine.

Regards,

Maurice

Yes - there was a cut-out - Someone made it for a drive belt from the flywheel
- But I got the engine with the foundation repaired - hope to see yours in a video too

Just got this very nice Lipsia poppet valve engine - very smooth runner - very clean
and complet. There is a 3 flame burner - but 1 flame just enough to run it slowly.
The Lathe may be Bing - i am not sure about that. Have a short video - enjoy
