Hello Wayne,
I am sure that the grinder and the countershaft are EKT models from a factory in the former GDR. The electric motor could also be from this production.

Hello Paula,

if you have a faibel for EKT models, I refer you again to my link posted above. There you can look at all the versions of the drive models under "EKT models". On Ebay Germany, single EKT models are offered again and again, but also groups of EKT models.

SolingerStahl, that is a really neat picture you posted there!

I'll take one of each please...  ;D

Paula

;D I don't own them all, but I can still offer the Eccentric Power Press, the large blue 24V Motor and a Lineshaft if you are interested...  ;)

Hello Wayne,

unfortunately, I have not found any information that indicates a continued production of the EKT models after the company was incorporated into the VEB "Modell- und Plastespielwarenkombinat Annaberg-Buchholz". For me, the trail gets lost. As far as I know, the Volkseigene Betrieb (VEB) Modell- und Plastespielwarenkombinat Annaberg-Buchholz was broken up into several parts and sold in the years 1989 - 1991 by the Deutsche Treuhand, an organization that was supposed to wind up, dissolve or sell "non-economic" GDR companies. Some of these companies are still producing today or have been sold again or are insolvent. But there is no trace of EKT anymore. Looks like the production of the EKT models really ended in 1972. An end in the fog.

Wayne, here is a pic of all the EKT workshop models.
You'll find your three models among them...

I'm happy for you that the engine is just a little stuck. Good luck with the revision. The flat protrusion on the right side is supposed to be a drill. In EKT's catalog, the small machine is called a "grinding and drilling block". That makes it clear. Why there was not also a real small drill used, I do not know. Cost reasons will not have been the reason.

By the way, I own exactly the same model. Belonged to the parts that the friend brought me in 1990 from the former GDR.

Thanks, Jurgen, your efforts are appreciated.

Just so you know.....The motor, though a bit stiff,
ran the first time I tried it (train DC transformer).

Now to carefully clean it up to improve the performance
range and then experiment.  Maybe add a couple of neodymium
magnets to it.  Maybe see if I can turn it into a dynamo,
with no permanent changes of course.

Another question.  The grinder accessory has, on the shaft
end without the grinding wheel, a flat protrusion of the
axle, maybe 1cm long.  What is its purpose?

I can only answer quickly that the EKT KG was dissolved in April 1972.Quote from the website ekt-modelle.de: 1972 April: Dissolution of the KG and incorporation into the VEB "Modell- und Plastespielwarenkombinat Annaberg-Buchholz" I will try to find out what happened to the VEB "Modell- und Plastespielwarenkombinat Annaberg-Buchholz" after 1989. I also do not know if the production of drive models was continued in this company (Kombinat).

Good morning from Brooklyn...

Well, they came today after only 8 days in transit.
That is a pretty good speed and the cost was reasonable.
They feel really solid and well made.  I added a photo
and now to do some testing on the motor.

I looked up some EKT history and it seems production
ended in the early 1970's.  Is that true?

Thanks,
Wayne

The price for the three parts is very good. I agree with Bruce that the EKT models are indestructible. I own a pair of them myself. A friend brought me the models from a small East German town in 1990. He restored old town houses there. The models had been carelessly thrown away.

Thanks.  I've heard of EKT, and the German description mentions EKT,
but I was not sure that included the motor.  I'm going to scour the
web for more EKT info.  When you see the prices of the vintage motors
with recognizable names, I feel I may have a fair deal here.  Even if
the motor needs rewiring, well, between my old slot-car customizing
skills and my studio-tech friend (a great resource for new and old
electrical issues), I should be able to handle it.

On the other hand, I received a PM research dynamo 'machined' kit for
fathers day.  I've taken care of the sharp edges and any flash and now
need to paint the casing parts.  I'm leaning to black.

I am now sure that the electric motor is also EKT. Look under EKT Modelle, 02-03 Elektromotoren.

Congratulations on the catch.

I should be receiving the three accessories from Germany in
three weeks or so.  Does anyone recognize the electric dynamo/motor?
I'm gambling it is a manufactured item. I added a couple of pics and a link.
Any info is appreciated.
