A useful misuse of the wire brush. As for the second part of your answer, Walter, I agree with you 100%.

If you are referring to the wire brush in the second photo Jürgen, I might inform you that this wire brush is is my ‘patented’ soldering iron support to rest my soldering iron upon when it is heated.
Personally I detest the use of a wire brush like grinding wheel as I think that they do more damage than good by removing more than necessary and even eroding the base metal away.

Very nice work and a good example of Ballistol working wonders when treating old paint. Thanks for the post.

Practiced more soldering and so on today on the Wunderlich Shoe Shine Man.
First photo is from 'Symphony in Motion', think that my bloke was a different model; well is now anyhow....

Next is removing some old scale so that the solder will take.
