I think you,ll have to wait for my wife to sell it when i,m gone :)

Is there a date I could put on my calendar to remind me to reach of to your wife?  Ha, just joking :-)

I hope to enjoy many more years of you posting new YouTubes & forum posts of your new (and old) engines!!

I think @crazydoug needs to sell me his B-39 :O

LOL

But in all seriousness - I think Doug is really lucky to have that engine.  While Archive.org is only as good as what has been scanned, it seems that B-39 wasn't around very long or at least advertised.  Then again, the Great Depression hit in 1929 and by the time Empire was back into full swing post WWII, their product line pretty much completely changed.

Nice find Richard.!

Doug, you are indeed fortunate to have that B39 in your great collection!

I found another ad for the B39 from the June 1928 Electrical Merchandising magazine.  The scan is better than the one I found in Playthings magazine.  I also found another ad in Electrical Installation Jan 1929, Vol. 45, No. 1 on page 182.

No other hits outside 1928 / 1929 and the one for 1929 there wasn't anything past the Electrical Installation ad.

I have seen that image before but for whatever reason I didn't save it.  I do have all of those engines, the bottom in is the "normal" B-33 that you see for sale on eBay from time to time.  The B-33 is like the other engines, belt driven with a pulley (without direct drive gear).

Without searching, have you got this one? I don’t know which engine it is… (file says 1930) (still looking for the workshop ad…)

A few days ago I came across a ad that I believe is this engine running a display that is like the B-40 display for the B-38.  Though it doesn't have the middle pulley.  It seems to have a drive shaft from the engine to the display (not a belt).  I can also see what might be the added brace for the gear.  Hard to tell really with the image.  But it is clearly a different setup from the B-39.

Though if I am right, how would that drive shaft run the platter of the display?  Would the Display have a different model number?  hmmm.

Its possible there is one more in the world.

I been chatting with @MarcelF and he mentioned he had a B-39 about 15 years ago.  Seems he didn't hold on to it for very long as he didn't like it much.  Sadly he doesn't remember who ended up with it and I suppose it is possible it is the same one that @crazydoug has... but I am hoping not as that opens the door for me to finding it someday for my Empire collection LOL

First one I've ever seen Doug.

Interesting that they simply moved the flywheel to the outside of the bearing post in order to make room for the worm gear drive assembly.

For the record, I am pining over your B-39 @crazydoug, almost as much as the Unicorn D-Cell B-44 LOL

Something that I recently realized, there are at least 3 variations of bases, though it seems they are all are stamped "E1" at the bottom.
I am wondering @crazydoug what does the bottom of your B-39 (and B-33) look like?  Perhaps what I have spied is a progress of B-33.  I am leaning towards that the one on eBay right now (one hole for the power switch) would be a early one.  Then mine with no notch for the paddle but two power switch holes is next, then lastly the one with two holes/with notch is a later one.

Likely a worthless endeavor what I am bringing up but sometimes (well most times) my curiosity gets the best of me!

I have a relatively respectable ephemera collection on the Empire brand, and haven´t after quite a bit of time spent today, been able to find this B39 mentioned anywhere.

Personally i do belive that you´re spot on, and this worm-gear eqipped model might well be a prototype...or at the very least a low productionnumber retailer only piece.

Thanks for sharing this rarity Doug, very interesting!!!

I've owned this B39 Empire solenoid engine for five years now, and have not found evidence of any others existing.  It is also not in Don Stilson's book.  I would still like to have more information on this seemingly rare model.
